The Department of Homeland Security announced that federal immigration authorities can now conduct enforcement operations in previously off-limits locations, including schools, churches, and courthouses. The policy change follows President Donald Trump’s revocation of a 2011 directive that prohibited Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection from targeting “sensitive” areas, such as schools, places of worship, hospitals, funerals, and public demonstrations. The new guidance also allows ICE to conduct operations near courthouses, primarily focusing on individuals involved in criminal cases
