Locking a profile to alignment geometry in Civil 3D ensures that your profile dynamically updates when the associated alignment geometry changes. Here's how you can achieve that:
1. Open Your Civil 3D Drawing
Ensure you have an alignment and an associated profile created in your drawing.
2. Check Profile Association
Go to the Toolspace, switch to the Prospector tab, and expand the Alignments node.
Locate the desired alignment, and under it, expand the Profiles node to see the associated profiles.
3. Open Profile Properties
Select the profile you want to lock in the drawing or from the Prospector tab.
Right-click on the profile and choose Properties.
4. Lock to Alignment Geometry
In the Profile Properties dialog box:
Switch to the Geometry Locking tab (if available in your version).
Alternatively, confirm the Reference Alignment under the Information tab to ensure the profile is linked to the alignment.
5. Use Dynamic Profile Creation
If you're creating a profile dynamically:
Launch the Profile Creation Tool:
On the Home tab, in the Create Design panel, click Profile Creation Tools.
Locking During Creation:
When prompted to select an alignment, ensure the profile is set to dynamically follow the alignment geometry.
6. Verify Locking Behavior
Test the locking by editing the alignment geometry:
Move a vertex or change a curve in the alignment.
The profile should automatically update to reflect the changes.
7. Optional: Create a Profile View
If you haven't already, create a profile view to visualize the profile linked to the alignment:
Go to the Home tab, then Profile Create Profile View.
Select the alignment and configure the profile view.
8. Save Your Work
Save the drawing to ensure the locked profile remains associated with the alignment.
Troubleshooting:
Profile Not Updating: Ensure that the profile is dynamically linked to the alignment. If the profile is static, changes to the alignment won't affect it.
Alignment Changes Break Profile: Verify that the profile's settings allow dynamic updates.
