SCOTUSblog co-founder and prominent Supreme Court lawyer Tom Goldstein was indicted in Maryland on federal tax evasion charges. He is accused of failing to report millions in poker winnings and using his law firm's funds to cover gambling debts. The indictment claims Goldstein deliberately evaded paying over $5.3 million in taxes to the IRS between 2016 and 2021. He also allegedly used firm funds to pay personal debts and misrepresented liabilities on mortgage applications. Goldstein’s attorneys denied wrongdoing, stating that he will contest the charges and expects exoneration at trial.
