Scottish Government is increasing funding for arts and culture which is good news for Glasgow creatives

The Scottish Government are increasing arts and culture funding over the 2025-2026 period with an additional £34 million being invested in the sector.

£20 million of this will be channelled through Creative Scotland which is a funding programme for artists and cultural organisations across Scotland.

This money will also be allocated to Scottish Festivals, Screen Scotland, The Cultural Collective Programme, Scotland’s National Collections, the National Performing Companies, and towards the creation of a single digital library interface directing people to Scotland’s public libraries.

This is a big deal for people working in the creative industry who rely on this kind of funding to make a living and marks a U-turn in attitudes.

In August 2024 Creative Scotland announced it was closing its open fund which supports musicians, artists and writers which was set to be impactful in Glasgow especially which is renowned for its DIY music scene.

Following a wave of protests this decision was reversed.
