In Siberia’s permafrost, researchers have unveiled the remarkably well-preserved remains of a juvenile mammoth, believed to have been frozen for more than 50,000 years.

Recovered from the Batagaika crater, the world’s largest permafrost crater, the mammoth was discovered by local residents.

The mammoth is estimated to have been only a little over a year old when it died. The carcass weighs over 110 kilograms and is one of the most intact specimens found in recent years.
