Luigi Mangione has been indicted for the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, with charges upgraded to first-degree murder in furtherance of terrorism, prosecutors announced Tuesday. Mangione allegedly shot Thompson on December 4th outside a Midtown Manhattan hotel as the CEO headed to an investors' conference. He also faces multiple weapons charges, including possession of a ghost gun, silencer, and forged documents. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg stated the killing was "intended to evoke terror," calling it premeditated and targeted. Mangione remains in custody in Pennsylvania, where he was arrested on Dec. 9 after a week on the run.
