Australian Parliament passes world-first law banning social media for under-16s

The Australian parliament passed on Friday, Nov. 29, a law banning children under 16 years old from having social media accounts.

The law will make platforms including TikTok, Facebook, Snapchat, Reddit, X and Instagram liable for fines of up to 50 million Australian dollars (P1.9 billion) for systemic failures to prevent children younger than 16 years old from holding accounts. (Courtesy of Associated Press)
