Georgia's opposition parties vowed to prevent the ruling Georgian Dream party from convening a new parliamentary session, declaring they would boycott the new parliament. Protesters gathered on Sunday, setting up tents outside the Soviet-era parliament building to block Georgian Dream lawmakers from entering.
However, on Monday morning, MPs from the ruling party entered the parliament and opened the new legislative session with no opposition members present. Official results from the October 26 elections showed that Georgian Dream was re-elected with nearly 54% of the vote, a result that opposition parties have contested, alleging fraud.
