The Justice Department announced charges against an asset of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps for allegedly plotting to surveil and assassinate Donald Trump before the presidential election at the direction of Iranian officials. Prosecutors allege that Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps initially directed Farhad Shakeri to plan assassinations of U.S. and Israeli citizens but later instructed him to prioritize an assassination plot against Trump ahead of the election. Attorney General Merrick Garland condemned the IRGC’s threat to national security. Iran dismissed the allegations as baseless.
