Israel has sent two planes to Amsterdam to return supporters of Maccabi Tel Aviv after what it called an antisemitic attack on fans.

Clashes broke out outside Amsterdam Central station after Thursday's football match between Ajax and Maccabi.

Israel says Maccabi fans were “ambushed and attacked” as they left the stadium.

Amsterdam police say five people were hurt and 62 arrests were made.

Police are investigating reports of a possible hostage situation and of missing persons following the attacks.

The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) have banned their personnel from going to the Netherlands.
