The eastern region of Valencia, Spain, is grappling with severe flash floods that have led to significant loss of life and widespread infrastructure damage.
Drone footage from Torrent, a town near Valencia, shows roads and bridges heavily impacted by mud and floodwaters. The floods, Spain’s deadliest in modern history, have claimed over 214 lives, with dozens still unaccounted for.
To support search and recovery operations, Spain is sending 5,000 additional troops, adding to the 2,500 personnel already assisting on-site.
As Europe’s worst flood-related disaster since 1967, this event highlights the ongoing challenge of preparing for and responding to extreme weather events.
