Monetta Eloyse Darnell, known as Linda (Dallas, October 16, 1923 - Chicago, April 10, 1965), was an American actress, a star of Hollywood cinema between the 1940s and 1950s. She made her debut in 1939, at the age of sixteen, with a prominent role in the film Hotel for Women. She starred in numerous successful films, directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz, René Clair, Rouben Mamoulian, Otto Preminger, John Ford, Henry Hathaway, Henry King, Preston Sturges and Douglas Sirk. She died tragically in 1965, at the age of 41, in a fire in her home. Her name is among the celebrities on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
