Bridge of Peace, Tbilisi, Georgia
The bridge itself is an instantly identifiable symbol because it unites two disparate elements and illustrates connections between many people, cultures, and ideological perspectives in an effort to foster communication, understanding, and peace.
On the Mtkvari River in Tbilisi, between the Metekhi and Baratashvili Bridges, stands the Peace Bridge. It links Rike to Erekle II Street. The Peace Bridge has come to represent the revitalised Tbilisi. On May 6, 2010, it received its formal opening. The bridge was designed by Michele de Luca, who also designed the Presidential Palace and the MIA building, and Philippe Martino was in charge of the lighting (he owns the lighting design for the MIA building, the Presidential Palace and the TV tower).
