Generals survive Pirates in cardiac match
King Gurtiza showed no nerves and made the crucial free throws in the dying seconds of the clock to allow Emilio Aguinaldo College to prevail over the Lyceum of the Philippines University, 90-88, in the NCAA Season 100 men’s basketball tournament at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City on Sunday, Sept. 29.
Gurtiza showed wit after making a shooting motion in the three-point arc as he was fouled by Vincent Cunanan with 6.7 seconds remaining in the clock.
“The moment I was fouled I knew that I will be shooting three free throws, I told myself I practiced this already, so then I made it,” Gurtiza told reporters.
Gurtiza tallied a total of 21 points, five rebounds, and five assists.
