A rainband situated over northern England moves south and combines with thundery showers to produce a long spell of very heavy rain in the evening over central and eastern England, for which there is an amber warning. Elsewhere it will also be wet and windy in Wales and south west England, with gales in the latter, while it is drier further north though there are some showers in north east Scotland. In the morning the rain is largely confined to the southeast of England and it is much drier on Friday morning
