Caspar David Friedrich spent most of his life in Dresden. He travelled a lot from here. Even carriage rides were too fast for him! On 4 July 1810, Caspar David Friedrich and his artist friend Georg Friedrich Kersting climbed Mount Oybin, an impressive sandstone massif in a basin surrounded by volcanoes. The medieval monastery ruins on the rocky plateau of Oybin made a lasting impression on Caspar David Friedrich.
