Faf du Plessis has one of the most underrated debuts in test cricket. In 2012, Faf du Plessis made his test debut in the 2nd AUS-SA test. He scored 78 in the first innings, but it was his performance in the second innings that stood out, particularly his partnership with AB de Villiers. South Africa had to chase 430 runs or play 148 overs to avoid defeat. When the 4th wicket fell, South Africa were 45 runs in. To secure a draw, they needed to survive at least 127 more overs. AB and Faf batted resolutely, building a partnership of 89 runs in 68 overs. Faf was given out Lbw twice, but both decisions were overturned. After de Villiers’ dismissal, Faf continued his fight alongside Kallis and made another partnership of 99 runs in 39 overs. The fall of Kallis meant Faf had to play out the last 20 overs with the tail, which he did brilliantly, successfully drawing the test match and reaching his maiden test 100.
