Restoration of an EXTREMELY RARE Lighter, World War II - D-day 1944! This was found by a metal detector on the Normandy beach area, with a special symbol attached. Watch me restore this war relic.
ABOUT RARE LIGHTING
This is an EXTREMELY rare and special war relic probably from World War II. The lighter was very worn before restoration. According to the senator, it was found near the shore of Utah Beach in Normandy France with a metal detector. This is one of the beaches where the Allies landed on D-day June 6th 1944 - So I guess it has been in the ground since the days around D-day 1944.
THE RESTORATION
I started by cleaning the man emblem that is attached to the lighter. I was VERY surprised at how cool this emblem looked. I am guessing it is an old US Marine Corps emblem from WW1 or WW2 but I am not sure. I heated the lighter to remove all the parts that were soldered to the lighter and were there after I removed all the small parts. They are very hard to remove. I guess the years on the beaches of Normandy in France were very hard on it.
I sandblasted the brass body and ground the entire lighter with 500, 1000 and 1500 grit. I polished it to a mirror finish and added all the little bits again.
The beautiful US Marine emblem was cleaned in vinegar before being reattached to the lighter. This is a beautiful war relic and I hope you enjoy this restoration video.
