Where's that Version of Sabretooth that Appeared in X-Men Origins Wolverine
There are two versions of Sabretooth in the movies, so why is the character in Deadpool & Wolverine the version of Tyler Mane?
Deadpool & Wolverine is one of the most anticipated films in the MCU. However, the choice of Tyler Mane to play Sabretooth generated confusion. Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman and the team have promised several surprise appearances in the cast, with past villains and heroes shining in the only MCU film in 2024.
Sabretooth, Wolverine's enemy in the comics and other media, needed to be present. Marvel brought back Tyler Mane as Victor Creed to fight Jackman's Wolverine. Although Mane appeared in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Liev Schreiber's version is more popular. This raised doubts about the choice of Mane as the villain instead of Schreiber.
Mane was the first to play Sabretooth in live-action, appearing in 2000's X-Men. He was part of Magneto's Brotherhood of Mutants and fought Jackman's Wolverine for the first time when Magneto sent him to kidnap Rogue. At the end of the film, Cyclops defeats him with an optic blast.
Even though Schreiber's version was more popular, it made sense to cast Mane for Deadpool & Wolverine. The MCU film brought back several actors from Fox's original X-Men timeline that Jackman's Wolverine interacted with early on. Schreiber, being from the spin-off X-Men Origins: Wolverine, could seem out of place among the original stars.
To date, the reason Schreiber was not chosen remains unknown. In 2023, Schreiber expressed interest in reprising his role, but it appears that Marvel chose not to cast him, possibly due to the focus on actors from the original X-Men films or budget issues.
