Beating heat with sweat-detecting smartwatch

Japanese manual workers are increasingly using tech to combat heat, like portable fans and air-conditioned clothing. Now, a new smartwatch-shaped device, the SKWL-1000 by Skinos, offers a high-tech solution by monitoring sweat to detect dehydration and heatstroke risk. It combines a hygrometer, heart rate monitor, accelerometer, and skin temperature sensor. Data is sent via Bluetooth, with color-coded alerts for hydration levels and automated reminders to take breaks and rehydrate. Developed by researchers from Shinshu University, Skinos is based in Nagano, Japan.
