The Rescue Operation
On Tuesday, Israel's military announced the rescue of Kaid Farhan Al-Qadi, a Bedouin Israeli from Rahat. Al-Qadi had been held captive by Hamas since October 7. Israeli forces located him in a network of tunnels in southern Gaza, using precise intelligence to guide their operation.
According to an IDF spokesperson, Al-Qadi is in stable condition and undergoing medical evaluations. His family has been kept informed and is receiving support from the IDF during this challenging time.
Al-Qadi’s Emotional Homecoming
Al-Qadi’s brother, Khatem, expressed profound relief and joy outside the Soroka Medical Center in Beer Sheva. In a video released by Israel’s Foreign Ministry, Khatem conveyed his gratitude to all involved in the rescue, saying, “It’s better than being born again.” The family is hopeful for Al-Qadi’s full recovery.
Historic Rescue
This successful mission is notable not only for its complexity but also because it marks the first time a hostage has been recovered from inside Hamas’ extensive tunnel network. Since the beginning of the conflict, this is the eighth hostage rescued alive by the Israeli military.
Prime Minister’s Message
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu personally reached out to Al-Qadi, expressing his relief and reassurance. In a video conversation, Netanyahu told Al-Qadi, “We do not forget anyone, just as we did not forget you.” Al-Qadi responded with gratitude, reflecting on the long-awaited rescue.
Ongoing Crisis and Negotiations
The Hostages Families Forum celebrated Al-Qadi’s return but stressed that military operations alone cannot resolve the situation for all hostages. Currently, 104 individuals remain in captivity from the October 7 attack, with 34 presumed dead. The forum called for continued efforts to secure the release of all hostages.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant praised the operation as “daring and courageous,” and President Isaac Herzog expressed his joy over the development.
