A Romanian court has ordered Andrew Tate to be placed under house arrest for 30 days, while his brother Tristan was placed under judiciary control for the same period. This comes after the two were among six people detained by Romania's anti-organized crime unit, Diicot, on Wednesday.
Diicot had requested the Tate brothers be arrested for 30 days, but the judge decided on the more limited house arrest and judiciary control measures instead.
The Tate brothers, who were previously indicted in mid-2023 along with two Romanian women for alleged crimes including human trafficking, rape, and forming a criminal gang to sexually exploit women, have firmly denied all the accusations against them. Their representative stated that the allegations are "baseless and unsupported by substantial evidence."
Prior to this latest detention, the brothers had been subject to a travel ban, which allowed them to move freely within Romania but prohibited them from leaving the country.
Andrew Tate, who has gained a large social media following by promoting an ultra-masculine lifestyle that has been criticized as misogynistic, posted on X (formerly Twitter) that "All they try to do is damage my name with complete bullshit," without specifying who he was referring to.
According to Diicot, the investigation has uncovered evidence of an organized criminal group involved in human trafficking, the trafficking of minors, sexual intercourse with a minor, and money laundering. The prosecutors allege that two of the accused used the "loverboy" method to convince victims they were in a romantic relationship, then force them to produce pornography that generated over $2.8 million and 887,000 in cryptocurrency.
Diicot also claims that one of the defendants forced a 17-year-old minor to produce pornography in both Britain and Romania, generating profits of $1.5 million, and repeatedly had sexual relations with a 15-year-old victim.
