Houthis' Silence and Historical Context
The Houthis have yet to claim responsibility for these recent attacks. Historically, their acknowledgment of such actions can be delayed by hours or even days.

Since the outbreak of the Gaza conflict in October, the Houthis have escalated their attacks on maritime targets. Over 80 vessels have been targeted with missiles and drones, leading to the seizure of one ship, the sinking of two others, and the loss of four sailors. Many of these attacks have been thwarted by a U.S.-led coalition in the Red Sea or have failed to hit their targets.

Motivations Behind the Attacks
The Houthis assert that their attacks are directed at ships linked to Israel, the U.S., or the UK in a bid to pressure these nations to end Israel's military actions against Hamas in Gaza. However, many of the vessels hit have little or no connection to the conflict, including those bound for Iran.

Broader Regional Tensions
The Houthis have also targeted Israel with drones and missiles. A significant attack occurred on July 19, resulting in one fatality and ten injuries in Tel Aviv. In retaliation, Israel launched airstrikes on Hodeida the following day, hitting fuel depots and electrical stations, which led to further casualties.

Following these strikes, the Houthis paused their attacks until August 3, when they struck a Liberian-flagged container ship in the Gulf of Aden. The intensity of the attacks increased on August 8, targeting another Liberian-flagged oil tanker, with similar incidents reported on August 13.

Recent Targeted Attacks
The latest attacks, including the one reported on Wednesday, have specifically targeted vessels associated with Delta Tankers, a Greek shipping company.

U.S. Military Response
In response to escalating tensions, including Iran’s threats of retaliation against Israel following the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, the U.S. military has intensified its presence in the region. The USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier strike group has been directed to move quickly to the area, and the USS Georgia guided-missile submarine has been deployed to the Middle East. The USS Theodore Roosevelt aircraft carrier strike group is currently in
