“The Red” is an environmental investigative documentary that follows the different steps of coral production starting from its extraction in Tunisia up until its exportation to and manufacturing in Italy.
“The Red” investigates coral trafficking and discloses international smuggling networks responsible for the depletion of the deep-sea wealth in Tunisia and the destruction of marine biodiversity in the Mediterranean region.
The film presents vivid testimonies from Tunisia, to Algeria, all the way to Italy, all leading up to a single conclusion: Coral is red gold illegally handled and overexploited by internal and external greedy structures, an invaluable wealth that urgently needs further regulation and protection because it belongs to the future generations.
