The torpedo is said to be a Chinese-developed Yu-10, which reportedly entered service in 2015, though no official specifications have been released, according to the Chinese military magazine Ordnance Industry Science Technology.
This torpedo is powerful enough to potentially sink an aircraft carrier and severely disable destroyers or landing docks, even if they do not sink completely, the magazine says.
With 17 Type 039B submarines in active service, these vessels form the backbone of the Chinese navy’s conventional submarine fleet.
