Vice President Kamala Harris has secured the 2024 Democratic presidential nomination, becoming the first woman and person of color to lead a major party ticket. Harris reached the delegates needed within 32 hours of President Joe Biden abruptly ending his own candidacy. Harris's nomination was formalized after a week-long online convention vote where 99% of delegates voted for her. Harris is the daughter of immigrants from India and Jamaica and would be both the first woman and the first person of South Asian descent as president.
