Somali security forces destroy suspicious vehicle after 32 civilians killed in beach attack
At least 32 people were killed and dozens injured in an attack on a popular beach in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, late on Friday night in reprisals for a recent military crackdown on Islamist radicals.
Security forces said they had killed all five of the men who were shooting at revellers at the thriving Lido beach area, while another detonated a suicide bomb at a hotel on the seafront. The Lido area is the favoured hangout of young Somalis during the Muslim weekend of Friday and Saturday.
