Thousands of people gathered on the streets of Tehran to mourn Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh during a symbolic funeral procession.
Haniyeh was assassinated in the Iranian capital on July 31.
The attack drew threats of revenge on Israel and fuelled further concern that the conflict in Gaza could turn into a wider Middle East war.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei led the funeral prayers. Haniyeh's body will be buried in Doha after the symbolic funeral, a statement by Hamas said.
