Germany’s Interior Ministry has banned the Islamic Center Hamburg (IZH), saying it pursues radical Islamist goals including promoting anti-Semitism and the militant group Hezbollah.
53 of the IZH’s premises across eight German states have been searched and as a result four Shiite mosques will be closed, including one of the oldest mosques in Germany known for its turquoise exterior.
Interior Minister Nancy Faeser said "We are making a clear distinction between Islamists, against whom we are taking tough action, and the many Muslims who belong to our country and live their faith."
