1969 FA Cup Final - Manchester City v Leicester City (1st half)

2024-07-13 27

The 1969 FA Cup Final saw Manchester City face Leicester City. Both sides had an eventful period in the 1960's, with Man City gaining promotion in 1966, then the League title in 1968, and were now hoping to claim the FA Cup all in a short space of time. Leicester City meanwhile had won the League Cup in 1964 and were in their 3rd FA Cup Final of the 1960's. They had been in the Top Flight since 1957, but this season they were struggling at the wrong end of the table, though they did have a backlog of games to go through to gain ground on their rivals. The Final therefore was a welcome distraction for them, and for City, who were midtable this season, and seemed to free up both sides. This final is surprisingly forgotten in FA Cup history, but this proved to be a enjoyable and competitive final, with both teams evenly matched in a good and fascinating game. Rarely seen in repeats on TV or even mentioned, here is the 1969 FA Cup Final in full, creating history for being the 1st FA Cup Final to be broadcast in colour. For those watching, Leicester are in blue, while Man City play in red & black stripes.
