It's all about the diamonds. Their clandestine faceting is running smoothly in a provincial town. The criminal business is run by the owner of the local restaurant Pavel Sergeevich-Pavlik (Yuriy Balyaev). His former schoolmate a senior police officer Valeriy Petrovich-\valera (Sergei Batalov) is Pavel's accomplice. Pavlik is trying to drag into his business another former classmate engineer Yuriy Vladimirivich - Yu.V. (Alexander Feklistov). Yuriy fares ill in life. He was imprisoned on a false charge. After his release Yuriy Vlasimirovich gladly accepts Pavlik's offer to work in his hometown. But the chief engineer's position is just a bait in the diamond fraud. Yuriy is to withstand serious challanges and to take part in vertiginous adventures. They are all the more dramatic since a woman is involved. Her name is Rita Imaria Mogilevskaya), she is Valera's (senior police officer's) wife and Yuriy falls in for her. The intrigue interwines tighter yet when Yuriy's only daughter Masha whom he hasn' seen for ages suddenly comes to town. A mysterious disappearance, pursuits, fire-fights, blackmailing... In extreme circumstances those survive who care about others more than about themselves.
