A member of Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor's security detail shot an armed man during an attempted carjacking in Washington, D.C., early in the morning on July 5th. Two deputy U.S. Marshals who were part of Justice Sotomayor's protection detail were confronted by a man who pointed a gun at one of the deputies through the driver's side window of their vehicle. One of the deputies then shot the man approximately 4 times. The deputy then provided first aid while the getaway vehicle, a silver minivan, drove off. The suspect was hospitalized and later placed under arrest on charges of attempted carjacking and resisting law enforcement officers.
