After many failures at the hands of Sonic, the evil Dr. Robotnik has finally gathered the six Chaos Emeralds. An attempt to use the powerful gems on his ultimate weapon results in a massive explosion that scatters the Emeralds across the island. Sonic and his pal Tails learn of these events, and the chase is on once again. This time around, not only must Sonic battle Robotnik and outwit the misguided Knuckles, but there is a new threat in the form of Nack the Weasel, a treasure hunter determined to make a profit off the Emeralds. It's a three-way race to find the Emeralds and save (or conquer) the world!
