White bellied bushchat female Call at Malam Jabba Swat

2024-07-08 3

The white-bellied bush chat (Saxicola gutturalis) is a species of bird in the family Muscicapidae. The female of the species typically exhibits more subdued and camouflaged coloration compared to the male. The female has a brownish or grayish-brown upper body, which helps in blending with its surroundings. The underparts are generally lighter, with a whitish or pale buff belly. Both males and females are similar in size, but the female may appear slightly plumper due to her more rounded body shape. The White-bellied Bushchat is typically found in open grasslands, scrublands, and agricultural areas. They prefer habitats with plenty of low shrubs and tall grasses. The female, like the male, feeds primarily on insects and other small invertebrates. She forages on the ground and in low vegetation. The female is responsible for building the nest, which is usually located in dense vegetation close to the ground. I captured this bird at Malam Jabba in Swat in June 2024.
