The former school district police chief, Pete Arredondo, has been charged with child endangerment over his actions during the Robb Elementary School shooting in May 2022 that killed 21 people. Arredondo, 52, was the on-scene commander during the shooting and was accused of improperly delaying the police response. A Justice Department report found that poor coordination, training, and execution of active shooter protocols led to law enforcement's failure to confront the gunman promptly. Officers waited over 70 minutes before breaching the classroom and killing the shooter.
