Rare ‘Corpse Flowers’ Bloom in London

Two rare Indonesian Amorphophallus titanium, or arum titan, flowers bloomed simultaneously at London’s Royal Botanical Garden.

Arum titan flowers are known to grow over 2 meters in height, while emitting the odor of a decaying corpse. This smell has given it the nickname of the “corpse flower”.

These flowers often take over 5 years to bloom, but only survive for up to 48 hours before wilting.

Botanists now say they will use the two flowers to cross pollinate each other and store their pollen.
