The Department of Justice blasted House Republicans for spreading false claims that the DOJ controlled the state-level hush money case against former President Donald Trump in New York. Attorney General Merrick Garland and other DOJ officials said there is no evidence the federal government coordinated with the Manhattan District Attorney's office on the case. The DOJ conducted a search and found no communications between its leaders and the Manhattan DA's office regarding any Trump investigations from 2021 to his May conviction. Assistant Attorney General Carlos Uriarte sent a letter to House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan refuting claims of DOJ involvement as "completely baseless."
