Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger says the company wants to build "everybody's" AI chips and leverage US factories to do so as it seeks to regain its position as the top chipmaker. Intel was overtaken as the largest chipmaker by revenue in 2017, but Samsung now wants to catch up to TSMC and Samsung in manufacturing. Intel is working to improve its foundry business, which saw its operating loss increase to $7 billion in 2023 and is not among the top six foundries by revenue. The US CHIPS Act should help Intel advance its manufacturing and research to compete in process technology again.
