Tesla Faces NLRB Complaint for Allegedly Hindering Unionization Efforts in Buffalo Plant

The National Labor Relations Board has filed a complaint against Tesla, accusing the company of taking steps to discourage employees at its Buffalo, New York plant from unionizing. The NLRB says Tesla implemented an "acceptable use policy" in 2023 that restricted recording, unauthorized soliciting, and creating distribution lists. The policy allegedly interfered with workers' legally protected organizational rights under the National Labor Relations Act. Tesla's Buffalo plant assembles electric vehicle charging equipment and houses an AI data labeling team. The plant laid off 285 workers last month as Tesla cut jobs globally due to lower EV sales.
