The United States aviation and space agency, or NASA, announced that parts of the earth will experience a total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. This highly anticipated natural phenomenon will bring darkness to most of the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
During the totality phase, namely when the sun is completely covered by the moon and only a thin band of light will be visible around the sun, the darkness only lasts a few minutes, not even days.
Totality occurred in a 185-km-wide stretch from the south, namely Mexico, to the north, namely Canada, crossing 15 states of the United States in Mexico. The total duration of totality there reached 40 minutes 43 seconds, starting from the Mazatlan Sinaloa area, Mexico, at 11:07 mountain standard time with a duration of 4 minutes 20 seconds, then ending in Toreon Koahua, Mexico, at 12:16 Central Standard Time with a duration of 4 minutes 11 seconds. Apart from Mexico, a total solar eclipse can also be seen in the United States.
In the US itself, the total duration is 67 minutes and 58 seconds, which will start at Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico. Eagle Pass, Texas, at 13:27 Central daylight time with a duration of 4 minutes, 24 seconds, and will end at Oakfield Main at 15:31 Eastern Daylight Time with a duration of 3 minutes, 23 seconds from the United States.
The totality phase of the solar eclipse will also lead to Canada, with a totality duration of 34 minutes and 4 seconds. The first region in Canada that will experience a totality phase is Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, namely at 15:18 Eastern daylight time with a duration of 3 minutes and 31 seconds. The totality phase then moves towards Catalina, Newfoundland, Canada, at 17:13 Newfoundland daytime with a duration of 2 minutes 53 seconds.
