It Has a Sharper Appearance, New Hyundai Tucson Plug-in Hybrid SUV 2025

Hyundai's compact SUV continues to be available with ICE, hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains.

The updated 2025 Hyundai Tucson debuts at the New York Auto Show with a host of upgrades. The compact SUV looks sharper than before in regular, N Line and XRT trims, but what stands out is the redesigned interior injected with Hyundai's latest tech bits. The powertrain lineup includes carryover ICE and plug-in hybrid options, along with a slightly more powerful, self-charging hybrid setup.

The mid-lifecycle refresh of the fourth-generation Tucson was introduced in Korea in November 2023, three years after its debut. Today, Hyundai showed off North American and European versions of the updated model, which – predictably – look almost identical.

Compared to the previous model, cosmetic changes focus on a new front bumper that gains a more boxy style and new daytime running lights in the revised grille. The standard model features oversized front and rear skid plates with aluminum-style trim; The N Line looks sportier thanks to body-coloured trim, while the XRT has a heavier dose of plastic cladding and longer roof rails. Hyundai also added new designs for the alloy wheels and a refreshed color palette.

More importantly, the 2025 Hyundai Tucson has a completely redesigned interior. The digital cockpit has been upgraded to a "panoramic curved display" with dual 12.3-inch displays that can optionally be combined with a 12-inch color HUD. The new infotainment system is said to be faster and easier to use, as well as being compatible with OTA updates.

Hyundai has gone back to buttons instead of touch-sensitive buttons for climate controls and audio/volume adjustment functions. There's also a new steering wheel, an instrument panel tray above the glovebox, a relocated wireless charging pad, improved USB-C ports, and a column-mounted gear selector on higher trims.

Safety equipment has been improved across the range with the addition of Forward Attention Alert (FAW), which tracks the driver's gaze via an infrared camera. If the driver does not react, Intelligent Cruise Control stops the vehicle and activates the hazard warning flashers and electronic parking brake.

A great feature on the hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions of the Tucson is the selectable "Baby Mode." According to Hyundai, this mode is designed for customers with babies or pets; because it "helps reduce the sharpness of initial acceleration, softening the driver's reactions for a smoother acceleration feeling for passengers".

The internal combustion engine-powered version of the 2025 Hyundai Tucson will arrive in U.S. dealerships this June, while hybrid and plug-in hybrid models will arrive in late summer. Pricing will be announced closer to launch.
