1964 FA Cup Final - West Ham United v Preston North End (2nd half)

2024-03-25 15

The 2nd half of the 1964 FA Cup Final saw favourites West Ham United behind to 2nd tier Preston North End, who were proving more than a match for their illustrious opponents. Despite their star names of Geoff Hurst and captain Bobby Moore, the Hammers had never lifted the FA Cup, having previously only appeared in one final, the first at Wembley in 1923. However the Hammers kept knocking at the door as they sought to end that hoodoo and win the FA Cup for the first time in their history in what proved one of the best Finals in it's history. And as the clock ticked away the game was on a knife edge, until it took one dramatic twist at the end...

This match also contains interviews with the managers and some of the players after the final, including a young Howard Kendall. I often wish the broadcasters would colourise their B&W era matches for fans, but in this particular case the B&W footage actually suits it, fitting well against the overcast weather the Final was played in, and it makes for a thrilling final.
