Movie heartthrob Hugh Jackman ended up with a black eye attempting a dramatic entrance onto US talk-show host Oprah Winfrey's stage Tuesday on a zipline running from the top of Sydney's Opera House.

Aussie action star Jackman, 42, hit his face as he landed after swooping onto the TV queen's stage over the heads of 6,000 fans gathered next to the famed landmark on Sydney harbour, AFP reporters at the scene saw.

Winfrey called for an ice pack and paramedics rushed to the stage to treat the "X-Men" and "Van Helsing" star for his injury as taping of the show was briefly suspended.

"That was so much fun until the end. Too much fun," joked Jackman, sporting a clearly swollen and bruised eye adorned with a dressing after re-emerging a few minutes after being led offstage by paramedics.

"It doesn't hurt," he reassured stunned fans, adding that he got "overexcited" and distracted by the famous view of Sydney's harbour and Harbour Bridge on his trip down from the tip of the opera house.

A smiling Jackman then sipped wine and tasted Australia's famous Vegemite snack with the talk-show queen, who recorded two episodes of the final season of her 24-year-old show in Australia.
