Starting at an estimated $29,000

Adding much-needed European flair to the crowded compact SUV segment is the 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan. The third-generation model is coming to the US soon, as a version has already been introduced in Europe. The Tiguan grows longer than its predecessor, which means additional cargo space in the back. The most dramatic update is the inclusion of a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The new Tiguan has a similar suspension and platform as the current GTI hatchback, which could make the Tiguan a particularly fun crossover to pilot. We'll update this story with price, features and photos of the new Tiguan as information becomes available. The Tiguan competes directly with other recently refreshed crossovers such as the Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-50 and Kia Sportage.

The third-generation Tiguan is scheduled to arrive in the 2025 model year. What we know for sure is that the new Tiguan will use VW's MQB Evo platform, which also underpins the GTI hatchback and Audi A3. The next-generation Tiguan will offer a plug-in hybrid powertrain that VW claims can deliver up to 62 miles in electric-only mode. The completely renewed interior and exterior are included in the new Tiguan.

The price of the 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan is expected to start from $ 29,000 and go up to $ 45,000, depending on equipment and options.

Details surrounding the new Tiguan's powertrain are still being closely guarded, at least for the US market, but we expect the turbocharged 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine to serve as the base power source, along with an optional and more powerful plug-in hybrid. An eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is likely to handle the gear shifts in both engine options. The last-generation Tiguan used a 184-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four engine with 221 pound-feet of torque.

The new Tiguan's additional length provides a more practical and compact crossover. Additional cargo space is a big plus, and the Tiguan will likely remain one of the few options offering a third row in this growing crossover segment. The new Tiguan features electrically adjustable massage seats and the gear lever is now located on the steering column, giving more center console space than before. The second-row seats are 60/40 split, allowing one or two seats to remain available for passengers when additional cargo space is needed.

The new Tiguan features a 15.0-inch infotainment touchscreen that acts as the command center for almost all air conditioning and entertainment functions. We wouldn't be surprised to see VW use a 12.0-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as the base or standard equipment unit in the new Tiguan.
