Łukasz Semkiw and his co-driver Tomasz Czepukojć died in an accident during the fifth edition of the Rajd Żuławski, on Sunday, 12 May 2019.
The accident happened on the second special stage of the event, near Błotnik, Cedry Wielkie in Gdańsk County, Pomeranian Voivodeship, in northern Poland. Their #7 Honda Civic Type-r left road, drove over a dyke and fell upside-down into a ditch. Rescue attempts were taken first by spectators and safety marshals then by firefighters who were on standby near the start of the special stage. Crews were unable to get out the occupants of the underwater car and it took about ten minutes to take them out.
Ambulances and a medical helicopter arrived to the place of accident and resuscitation attempts were taken but in vain. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the autopsy, driver was under the influence of drugs when the accident happened.
