7th Rallysprint de Tierra de Sariegos, round of Castilla and León Rally Sprint Championship, was stopped and cancelled after a fatal accident. Opel Kadett GSI #40 driven by rookies Alejandro Martínez Muñiz and Samuel Fernández Gavela went out of control after jumping and hitting a bridge parapet and left the road in place where four spectators were standing. Three of them managed to avoid it, but a 24-year woman was hit by a car and thrown into a bush. Despite the quick appearance of the medical team, they could do nothing and declared her dead at the scene. Driver Alejandro Martínez Muñiz, from Sarriegos, who had his debut in rally, was unharmed, but suffered a nervous breakdown.
Name of the unfortunate victim was not disclosed. She was reported to be from Madrid and a student in León. Alongside other spectators, she initially stood in the prohibited zone but changed her location after warnings from the safety car. After the accident, the town council of Sariegos declared three-day official mourning.
