The experienced driver Guy Ouellette, 49-year-old from Valcourt, was involved in a major wreck at the Autodrome Drummond in Drummondville, Québec, Canada, during the DIRT (Drivers Independent Race Tracks) Sportsman feature.
The accident occurred on Saturday, 27 May 2017 night, with only a few laps remaining in the event. The driver was trapped in the cage after flipping a couple of times. Rescue forceps were used by the emergency crews to remove the victim from the crash site, before being taken to the Drummondville Hospital. Guy Ouellette succumbed to his injuries shortly after admission.
The tragedy ended prematurely the day's racing program at the Autodrome Drummond. This was reported to be the first fatal accident at the track, since 18 years: Yvon Poulin was killed on 25 September 1999. A motorcycle rider Roland Dubreuil died at the Autodrome Drummond in wartime, on 11 September 1944.
