Birmingham headlines 5 January: Woman suffers injuries during suspected kidnap in Balsall Heath

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of kidnap after a woman was seen in distress in Balsall Heath. Police were alerted after the woman was seen being forced into a car. Witnesses attempted to help. Officers identified the woman who suffered minor injuries.

Serial rapist Dean Holness from Kings Norton who carried out a string of depraved sex acts against women and girls has been jailed for 20 years. A court heard he played truth or dare with three victims prior to assaulting them. One of his victims was just 15 years old.

An urgent appeal has been launched to save St Paul's Church in the Jewellery Quarter. Around £660,000 is needed for urgent roof repairs at the church which was consecrated in 1779 and nestled in Birmingham's last Georgian square.
