KTM’s entire lineup of full-size motocross and cross-country models enter a new generation in 2023. Under the sharper bodywork, each machine was given a new frame, subframe, swingarm, and shock. Powerplant updates for the four-strokes were specific to each displacement. In the case of the 250 XC-F, it shares much of the same engine architecture as the 250 SX-F—the main difference being its use of a six-speed gearbox instead of the motocrosser’s five-speed.

The 250 XC-F gained some weight for 2023. According to our automotive scales, it’s 6 pounds heavier than the outgoing (2019–2022) model. We also ran the Austrian manufacturer’s 250cc four-stroke cross-country model on our in-house Dynojet 250i rear-wheel dynamometer, where we documented peak figures of 40.5 hp at 13,000 rpm and 19.0 lb.-ft. of torque at 9,800 rpm. Now that empirical data has been established, it’s time to see how the quarter-liter thumper version of KTM’s all-new off-road competition platform takes to the trail and track.
