27-year-old Austrian rider Peter Benderle was involved in a multiple pile-up in the opening lap of the 600 cm3 race at the František Bartoš Circuit in Radvanice, neighborhood to Ostrava in Moravian-Silesian Region, Czech Republic. This was the sixth edition of the event which was a round of the 2014 Czech Road Racing series.
Shortly after the start of the race, around 14h00 on Sunday, 13 July 2014, Peter Benderle fell down and was thrown from his machine, crashing into a lamp post at high speed. The emergency crews were on the scene within a couple of minutes. They tried to resuscitate Benderle, without success. He succumbed to his injuries on the spot.
Four other riders, Zdeněk Sedlák, Martin Sedlák, Marek Zima and Roman Skoupý, were injured in the accident, one of them seriously. They were taken to local hospitals for further treatment. The race was stopped after the tragedy.
Peter Benderle was buried in a cemetery in Leopoldsdorf/Marchfelde, Niederösterreich, Austria.
This was the first of two fatal accidents involving competitors in the Ostrava-Radvanice event. On 10 July 2016, Czech rider Olin Hanák was killed during the same 600 cm3 class race.
